Meet Rory…
Rory gets to be our test subject for our ‘”Raw Paleo for Dogs” experiment.
Around 6 months ago I witnessed my first dog seizure. Heart breaking to say the least. To have to watch as a part of your family writhes uncontrollably only to awaken so to speak, and be completely unable to tell you in any way how he feels, or what he needs after such an ordeal. As you can imagine, the Vet trip was scheduled for later that day.
After blood work, and so on the Vet returned with their diagnosis. “He’s fine, these things just happen.” This response was given along with a script for Phenobarbital, a popular seizure med. Caring greatly for my family, and trusting a professional, I took this assessment, and was most interested that I did not ever have to feel horrible while watching him go through one of these episodes again.
Selfishly, I failed him. I did not want to feel bad, so I let someone medicate my family without doing any homework. I did not ask the questions, or do the research, until recently. “Why didn’t this Vet ask me what I feed my dog”? Seems very relevant to me. Since he gets the exact same meal over and over again, it would seem imperative for a Dr to look at 100% of the ingested drug of choice, but alas, nothing.
So now, six months, and a 20lb weight gain later, Rory is going on a diet. No more Science Diet with a list of ingredients akin to cereal with razor blades for adults. No more grains, or processed anything, or for that matter cooked anything.
Rory will remain on PB for now, and eat like the wolf he is derived from, as all dogs generally are. He will receive around 6 eggs a day, and 1lb of assorted meats, organs, and so forth. PCF will detail his progress for months to come.
Of all the research, Mark @ PB has the best source Here.
